Employee Work Journey - Lynne McMillan

My Journey with Stepping Stones for Families by Lynne McMillan

My Journey with Stepping Stones for Families by Lynne McMillan

In February 2007, I became a sessional worker with Stepping Stones for Families working with Glasgow Sitter Service (Play and Care at Home) and Glasgow Crèche (Play and Care Glasgow).  I also had the opportunity to work within the daycare services when required.  At this point I could only work sessional hours as I was a Project Manager for an Out Of School Care service with another organisation.

In January 2011, I was made redundant from my Out Of School Care post and was then able to fully commit to my sessional work within the childcare services at Stepping Stones for Families.  In October 2011, I was offered a great opportunity from Stepping Stones for Families to cover a temporary post as childcare practitioner within Thistle Childcare (3 days per week) along with becoming the Glasgow Sitter Service Co-ordinator (2 days per week).  I was also offered an additional role, providing administrational support for 3 projects/services.

Throughout my time with Stepping Stones for Families, I have been given the opportunity to gain my Level 3 CCLD along with lots more skills and knowledge. This led me to take on the role of Sitter Service Co-ordinator which I found to be an enjoyable and challenging position with lots of responsibilities.

In April 2014, a permanent position became available in Possilpark Child & Family Centre as a childcare practitioner and I was successful in gaining this post.  This gave me the opportunity to help vulnerable families which to the present day I thoroughly enjoy.  If you can make at least one person gain trust in you or make one person smile a day then you are doing something right.

In August 2015, I got an additional post with Possilpark Out Of School Care which kind of brought me back to my old roots and in 2016 I was offered a senior role with POOSC which I gladly accepted.

Summary

Throughout the past 10 years I have appreciated and enjoyed every post I have covered.  I can only thank Stepping Stones for Families for putting trust and confidence in me to do so and for giving me all the great opportunities and continued support.

Thank you Stepping Stones for Families.
