Stepping Stones for Families, Power of Play project based in Townhead Village Hall, Glasgow has been awarded a grant of £129,670 from the Big Lottery Fund. Power of Play (The PoP! Project) offers BME families who are new and/or seeking asylum in Scotland, the time; space; and opportunities to address social isolation, build resilient families, connections and a sense of belonging in the local community – by harnessing the universal language of play.

This welcome and extraordinary support from the Big Lottery Fund will help us to provide family play programmes where families can come together and spend time playing with their children. Throughout the programme families not only engage more in self-directed play with their children, the children increase confidence and spend time playing with their peers, whilst parents then meet together to develop and follow their own activities.

Families who need additional support can also be referred into PoP! where all the families have access to Stepping Stones for Families wrap around family support service. Babies will have the same opportunities to join in the play and be included in PoP! enjoying sensory play sessions with parents.

PoP! Community Play Days are a part of the programme bringing together all members of the family and families from all cultures who live in and around Townhead, to enjoy time together and create a more integrated community.
